Henry Ford

Henry Ford was born on July 30th 1863 in Dearborn, Michigan. Henry Ford created the Ford T model car. He also created the mass production line or what we now call the conveyor belt. As a result, Ford sold millions of cars and became a world-famous company head.

When Henry was a young teenager his father had set him of to do farm work.  Unsatisfied with farm work, Henry left home the next year at age 16 to take a apprenticeship as a machinist in Detroit. In the later years he would find himself being able to operate and service steam engines.

In 1888, Henry married Clara Ala Bryant and briefly returned to farming to support his wife and son, Edsel. But three years later, he was hired as an engineer for the Edison Illuminating Company. In 1883, his natural talents earned him a promotion to Chief Engineer.All the while, Ford developed his plans for a horseless carriage, and in 1896, he constructed his first model, the Ford Quadricycle.  Within the same year, he attended a meeting with Edison executives and found himself presenting his automobile plans to Thomas Edison. The lighting genius encouraged Ford to build a second and better model.After a few trials building cars and companies, in 1903, Henry Ford established the Ford  Motor Company. 

 Henry Ford introduced the Model T in October of 1908. However, more than for his profits, In 1914, he sponsored the development of the moving assembly line technique of mass production. After that, he introduced the $5-per-day wage  as a method his company. Almost half of all cars in America in 1918 were Model T’s. After teaching the world many techniques Henry Ford died on April 7, 1947.

Cinquains

A cinquin is a simple 5 line poem that follows a pattern. The pattern is right below. The first line is one word which is the title of the poem. The second line contains two words which are adjectives that describe the title. The third line has three words that tell the reader more about the subject of the poem or shows action.  Many times these words are gerunds that end with “ing.”The fourth line has four words that show emotions about the subject of the poem and may be individual words or a phrase. The fifth line is one word that is a synonym of the title or is very similar to it. Look at the examples below.

Couplet

A couplet is a poem that has two lines. The last word of the first line and last line usually rhyme. Look at the examples below.

By dawn the bird must speak,
Otherwise we climb to the peak.


I have two cats, one mean and one nice.
They chased some very ugly mice.



Derrick was the second man of the table,
Saying he was a coward is a complete fable.


Neil Armstrong went to the moon
He found a small child's balloon

Clerihew

A Clerihew is a humorous poem that is 4 lines and composed of two rhyming couplets. The rhyme pattern is a-a-b-b with lines of uneven length. Look at the example below.

A small one died
And the rest were killed for hide

The enemy of Harry Potter
Was a very nice plotter
I would be ashamed
To tell "He who must not be named"

When I was a pirate I found some gold treasure

Color Poems

A Color poem is a poem that describes a certain color. A color poem is usually 5-6 lines. None of the lines follow any pattern. Look at the examples below.

Red

Red is the color of the sun which gives us light every day
Red is a blazing fire destroying all in it's path.
Red is the ripest raspberry begging to be picked.
Red is the color of blood being given to an old man
Red is the color of the sun setting in the cool Spring day

White

White is the color of a doughnut shaped clod floating silently across the light blue sky.
White is the snow ready to fall out of the dark black sky.
White is the color of a blank piece of paper ready to be printed.
White symbolizes world peace.
White is the color of a sweet sucked candy cane in a small boys mouth.

Blue

Blue is the color of the vast sky.
Blue is the color of the pleasant Amazon River.
Blue is one of the 3 colors that represents America.
Blue is the color of my brother's jeans just washed.
Blue is the color of a star at the edge of burning out.

Haikus

A haiku is a Japanese poem consisting of 3 lines. Each of the 3 lines follow a simple pattern. The pattern is the first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7  syllables and the third line has 5 syllables. Look at the example below.

The wind is blowing

It is blowing very hard

I don't like the wind.
